This was a great week. I had many opportunities to speak with my some of my best friends about the things I believe and my opinions aided by the church.
I also read Genesis Chapters 4-7 and learned some interesting things. These chapters have a lot of family trees tied into them, which I know many of us like to giggle about, when the ENTIRE chapter is basically "and so and so begat so and so and he begat her and so on." I used to take those chapters very lightly until just recently when I was reading these chapters and the Spirit touched my heart. The theme of the Youth Conference I mentioned in my last blog was, "Discover them, Discover you." This is a very powerful theme in the church that I fear too many of us, including myself, take for granted. You see, when I read through the genealogy laid out in Genesis, I thought about why in the world they would have written all that in the scriptures. A thought came to my mind shortly after. It is because they wanted to show an example of the importance of genealogy. The prophets of old, beginning with Adam, have their entire family tree chronologically laid out in the scriptures, so that their names are recorded and their families are together in writing. This is very important for us to do in our day as well, because if we can find our family in writing, we can find them through the temple. Matthew 18:18 "Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." I gained a greater appreciation for family and the importance of genealogy and temple ordinances that bind our families to us.
